Latest offer for my Biscayne
Permalink

So far I am only getting trade offers for the Biscayne.  I have had people want to trade a 68 Corvette, a 1st gen Hummer, a 72 Eldorado Convertible and now this Pro Street 73 Camaro.  The Camaro actually looks pretty good and well done. I am going to take a look later this week.  It has a 10-1 496, built T350 and 9 inch Ford with 4.11 gears.  My concern is I will be trading one narrow market car for another and have to pay sales tax on the trade for the privilege.

Hi Pat, I'd have to agree with you on trading one niche market vehicle for another with all those offers. It may be tempting to do a trade on something that you might think you can flip quickly via a wider audience perhaps and possibly bigger cash value than what you percieve your Biscayne to be, but personally I would not go that avenue. I had similar experience with selling my drag car Monte Carlo. It took almost 2 years, but eventually the right buyer found me and I felt very good about the sale i.e. the buyer truly wanted it / appreciated it / a "good hands" buyer. and I sold it for money, not a trade deal.

Just my .02 cents which is worth one Dwight Schrute dollar.

JMHO. NO on the Camaro Pat. Looks like a lateral move to me. I like sedans and really like the early 2nd gen f Body’s but your Biscayne trumps all the offers so far unless you really want a “tubbed” car.

Pat , I too am thinking of selling my 69 Biscayne , but keep waffling month to month .( I've been like that for 2 years now , and just can't pull the trigger ). It is similar to yours ( L72 M22 non #'s ) , but I find it's simply too much engine to be a daily driver and to enjoy fully . My wife will never drive it as it scares her .

If I do sell the 69 , I can fall back on a 68 Biscayne project that "will" be a driver ( likely a 396 M20) , hopefully easier on gas and cheaper to build . But in the back of my mind , I know it would be a mistake to sell my 69 . My gut feeling is that these BBC L72 Biscayne Post cars have yet to be fully appreciated out there . IMHO .....Plain Jane is "in" .

Keep them guys.....you will regret selling them ( we always do. I understand.... we are all just care takers of them....but if you do not have to sell them....do not sell. The Joy and Happiness they bring us is hard to duplicate.

Pat....I would not even go and look at that Camaro.....I have seen enough. JMO.

I'm in the herd with no on the camaro... we don't know your tastes so maybe you really dig it - if so do it... but then again - you can't swing a cat around without hitting a Camaro... I know at Cars and Coffee Oklahoma City - I had the ONLY B Body out of 700 or so cars there last month... just know - your car is special - that's why the guy with the Camaro wants a trade...

If you raced the Camaro, plan of a lot of wrenching. I wouldn't consider any of the cars you mentioned. Jmo.

No Camaro for me. Called and talked with him and offered a fair sale price, but like so many, he is car poor at the moment. So, as much as he wanted the Biscayne, not able to swing it. I will continue to enjoy it until someone comes along that wants it more than I do.

Pat, this is a familiar story for those of us who like the "big cars". You get all the love at car shows but when it comes time to lay the $ on the table the same people will step over you to buy a Camaro, Nova or Chevelle.
(Just a note, Not THAT Camaro !) A sideways move to something more desirable is one path. The only car on your list that would do that is the 68 Corvette, but I bet there is a non matching engine story to go with that one
and you could be in deeper waters very quickly.

My only advice, and I know this is not going to be well received by the online critics, is this- If you need good information on a particular make or model of car, then a site like this one is the BEST place to go. "Ask the
man who owns one ". But if you need good information on the market price of a particular make or model of car, then a site like this is the LAST place to go. LOL Human nature being what it is, people overvalue the things they
love and are passionate about. They also have a very vested interest in making sure that YOU don't firesale your car because it hurts the value of their cars! I know that this is not done intentionally, nor with malice, but is is a fact.

Marc, Thanks for the comments. I agree about people liking the big cars, then going for something else. Just a fact of the market and I accept that. The Corvette offered, plus cash, was a nice car but probably the least desirable of the 68s. Was a coupe/T-top, small block not original motor, 4 speed car, no AC. I did quite a bit of research and found that the convertibles bring more money, and everyone wants a big block. I have followed the big car - Biscayne market quite a bit over the years and accept that I may have mine for a while before someone else decides they have to have it. On the other hand, there are not a lot of them around so if you know someone who wants one...

Pat

You have a really nice car Pat. Does it not seem like no one has any money for cars right now ? Nothing but trade offers, and strangely no one ever offers you anything
that is even worth a dollar more than the car you are selling?
