69 Chevelle 300 post. I have already found out that the coupe rear seat upholstery does not fit and must be a bigger size for the post (sedan). Now I am told (and it makes sense) that the rear package tray cover (with mesh over the rear speakers) for the coupe - "does not fit on the "sedan/post" car. It is too small and can't simply be cut down to fit.

What is the usual fix for this problem? I assume there is no supplier fix so does everyone just put carpet/custom mat'l/felt of whatever cut to fit in that area?

Hi Chuck,

Call Legendary Interiors and order an All Black Smooth Package Tray. Fairly inexpensive. I bet the one you had or purchased may have been altered or not the correct application for a 1969 Chevelle....as all the rear package trays have side ear flaps. These flaps need to be bent upwards 90 degrees and fold under the sail panels. It needs to be a tight fit. Your rear interior side panels need to be removed for proper installation.

No 1969 Chevelle Post Sedan ever came with a (as you refer to it as) Mesh over the rear speakers. Feel free to post a picture and I will tell you what you have.

Good Luck,

Dan

Hello Dan,

Thanks for the reply. I have no existing material and the car is gutted on the interior. Just had the headliner installed. I have salvaged the rear interior side panels (sail panels?), just barely. I compared them to a new set of SS panels and they are a significantly different size (actually smaller than SS/coupe version). I have been talking to Ground Up, Original Parts Depot, and Ausley's Chevelle - all of whom tell me their rear deck package tray shelf cover (mesh or no mesh) will only fit onto a SS/coupe and not a sedan. They say the coupe version is smaller than the sedan size, which obviously no one carries. IF it is significantly smaller than it may leave a gap and not allow the "flaps" you mention to fit properly. Have you or anyone else actually used a SS/Coupe sized rear deck shelf cover on a sedan?

Thanks for the feedback Dan. I thought Legendary was a little pricey, so I ordered one from Bob's Chevelle/Impala. They canceled the order after two weeks because they could not get the OEM to ship on time. (I believe the OEM was REM). I then found a decent price for one at JEGS and charmed them into free shipping. My mechanic/assembly tech/electrician/installer says the material is excellent and had no trouble with the installation.
Thanks again,
Chuck
