I thought I'd share my first real build that I took on in the 80's when I was in my teens.

The car is a 1970 Holden Torana LC GTR. It rose out of the ashes of another GTR that I wrapped around a telephone pole on a rainy night when my ambitions overtook my abilities!

These little cars were mass produced during their time and the GTR and GTR XU-1 were considered the performance version. They were raced extensively in our Touring Car series and also won the Hardie Ferodo 500 mile race in 1972, which eventually morphed into the Bathurst 1000, at the hands of the legendary Peter Brock.

My car was powered my a 202 ci inline 6 with many period modifications for the time such as one of the first roller camshafts for this application, headers, aftermarket cylinder head and so on. This car also had triple 45mm Weber carbs and Warneford intake manifolds.

It had a 2 speed Powerglide with a manual shift kit and a 3500 rpm convertor and a LSD Banjo rear with a 3.55 ratio.

It came from the factory with power brakes and front discs. Given the power to weight ratio they were a bit of a weapon on the street for the time and disposed of many V8's along the way.

This car was basically stock part from the motor and trans which were all period GM upgrades.

I ended up having to sell the car in the 90's to enable us to buy our first home. Sound familiar?

The first pics is of myself and my now 23 year old daughter! How time flies!

That's pretty cool, and a great story. Kinda makes me think of an Opel Kadett

Here is the Australian version of the Kadett, Pat. It's called a Holden Gemini.
