window off regulator

Hello, I need some help my window on my 67 chevelle fell off the regulator while i was rolling it up. I dont see any spot welds on the metal piece attached to the glass or the metal piece on the top on the regulator that attaches to the metal on the bottom of the glass. Question is do i have to take the window out of the door to spot weld a few tacks to secure the window on the regulator? or can i do it while its in the door through the big gap? without heat damaging the glass or door?

There is usally enough room to get your hand up through to remove a broken regulator. Then do your welding on the bench out of the car. That is how I would do it.

I think I might understand what happened as it happened on my 2 door post. If the metal c channel that is glued to the glass separated from the metal guide channel that the regulator roller wheel rides in, then I bet the c channel rusted thin along the bottom and the rivets that hold the 2 pieces together pulled thru. I was able to spot weld them back together along the sides of the 2 pieces where they meet. I did both sides do obviously that can only be done removed from the door. When I did mine the glass wasn't attached yet but it sounds like your glass is still glued to the c channel so I'd remove c channel from glass. You can reglue it after the welding is done. The vent window assembly needs to be removed before you can get the door glass out.

fixed it ... tacked it right through the door panel just taped and protected glass and cooled the weld down with an air tool attached to compressor and worked out fine and fixed for life hopefully lol
