Exhaust

Cast-iron exhaust manifolds are mandatory and must be correct for the year, model, and horsepower claimed. Internal modifications to the exhaust manifolds are NOT allowed. Under no circumstances will headers be allowed, including those cars that came with headers delivered in the trunk. The exhaust system may be upgraded to a maximum of 2.5-inch head and tail pipes. Pipes must be routed as they were originally for the year, make, model, and engine combination. Mufflers must be stock looking in design, that is, oval in shape. No glasspacks or straight pipes allowed unless installed as original equipment. Maximum muffler inlet and outlet size is 2.5 inches. X & H pipes allowed.

This is one area a lot of improvement is made vs original

Ryan

This is an area.....that most cheat! Sorry it's a sore subject for me.....as Ryan and others know all too well how I feel. I do not believe any of these races....build there cars to 100% honest integrity and rules....it's too easy to cheat.

It's what racer do.....it's why Moon Shine Cars, Nascar, NHRA are all similar...it's how they make the cars go faster and faster by bending and stretching the rules.

Dan

I hear what your saying Dan, but that is part of the beauty of the little Buick 350. No cheating needed. The exhaust manifolds are almost carbon copies of the 455 manifolds. If they flow good enough for a 455, a hundred less cubic inches isn't going to be crippled by them, so I left them alone. I think that is part of the reason this package works as well as it does, everything compliments each other in this combo. We used high compression and port velocity, over a build mindset of hogging stuff out trying to achieve flow numbers. It's kind of like a restrictor plate engine......squeeze the crap out of what you can get into it.

Tom,

Your integrity is solid in my book......we very well know who the cheaters are, no name calling needed.

You know what I find funny? A friend and I have had this discussion many times over the years.
The ones who cry foul first, and make the most noise, are usually doing the most cheating.
The ones that order a bunch of expensive parts, slap stuff together, then get their ass handed to them by a guy who has done his homework, track testing, experimenting.
Those are the ones who say....."well, I've done this and this, and bought these, so if I've cheated and done stuff, they must REALLY be cheating".
The ones that spend a bunch of time and money paying for porting are shooting themselves in the foot. I personally feel it does more harm than good, especially on an engine with exhaust manifolds. The engine is only going to pump so much air through it, so when you hog out the intake manifold and the ports, you've just killed all the port velocity, and you end up with a poor running turd with a bunch of expensive port work.

Couldn't agree more Tom....I am picturing the half dozen guys in my mind that I am thinking of at this moment that are always the same guys that are always complaining.

I think this would be a good car for Mike Gaurise to add to his collection. I KNOW he doesn't have one like it. That way the car can go to MCACN.
