Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Permalink

Wow! What a crazy car week this has been. While telling Rick Pauley (Rix396) how to find a certain 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan for sale.....Rick stumbles on something even better!

I said.... "What could possibly be better?" Rick, says "I found a Real Black SS396 Post Sedan and its an L78 car" In the mean time my phone is ringing off the hook as others are finding out about this car....Fire Spreading Fast.

As I type this, Rick Pauley and Jim Hanke are driving back home with this real Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Chevelle on the trailer.

Look for more pictures....and the complete story from Rick in a few days.

Special Thanks go out to Jim Hanke for driving Rick and picking up this Special Chevelle.

Congrats to Rick Pauley (Rix396) on purchasing his third 1969 Post Sedan and his second SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Chevelle.

Pics.....Obviously a drag car most all it`s life. What a shame for someone to cut open a real SS Hood.

Check out the "Single" fuel line

Dan

GREAT!! Like Dave said, somebody sure F----d that car up. That'd be bad enough to do to a regular SS396, let alone an L78 post car! Car is sporting an automatic, wonder if it's originally a 4 gear car.
Dan maybe you should look into re-producing a GOOD copy of the original floor mats. I need one, this car needs one and so on...biggrin

Got back late and stashed the car until tomorrow.
Yes the car has been through the wringer, but finding it like this is pretty cool.
Looks to have at least 4 paint jobs, and will need plenty of sheetmetal work to bring it back.
Here are some pics taken before we left Detroit.

Can hardly wait to do that. All I'll think about at the birthday party will be the dreams for this car. Sorry M-I-L

Thing is...with cars like these, they don't get "FOUND", someone else gets TOLD about them.

I'm just glad it was allowed to change ownership. So many just get left to rot. Obviously, whoever raced it didn't seem to care about it being an SS396 L78 Post Sedan.
I hope there will be lots of photos of its resurrection.

At some point and time, throughout numerous owners....I do not believe they even knew what an L78 is or was? It was just a weekend warrior drag car.

I'm sure they knew what SS396 meant tho. I hate to say it, but some people just don't care.

It reminds me of a scene in Fight Club, where Edward Norton pummels a blonde kid. Brad Pitt asks "Where did you go psycho?" Edward Norton says: "I wanted to destroy something beautiful!"

Nice find! biggrin   nice to see it saved.. biggrin      Looks like the owner, was a bit of a "Cowboy"    eazy fix with all new sheetmetal and paint and driveline  lol

The red Nova, I bought with a 400 4 speed in it, was a original L78 car from Central Chev Olds                                                                                                                   I sold it running for 800.00    "Someone" restored it

I just got home....Rick and I trashed on the Black SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan for 5 hours....Hanke joined us after Church, he`s a good boy.

I am confident that this Black 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan rolled of the assembly plant at the Kansas Plant as an L78 375hp, 4 speed (We may never know for certain which 4 speed it was?) with KK 4.10 posi rear end

Before....

After....

Mike Sharp,

You can now sleep well at night :) The emblem was just as I told you

More pics to come.

Both rear drums dated, A 29 9

This is the Herve Villachaize (Tattoo from Fantasy Island) SS hood.....looks like he slammed right through it :naughty:

Original upper and lower ball joints

We believe it`s the original mileage, based on being a drag car for so long.

Rick very carefully exposed the original firewall chalk marks......

You`ll have to look close.... we can see: 10 followed by 13427, followed by 1/20.

Back side of SS and 396 fender emblems
