I understand the attention that the Superbird and Camaro and Torino are getting, but the car I'm loving from the picture is that 1960 Biscayne 2 door post.  Something about the stance, with the ralleys and the body style and even the color, man I'm loving it.  Those tail wings in the back and the pointed taillights, and the (airplane?) mouldings on the sides, love that body style.  Was that one of your buddie's cars?  Any details on it?

This is my Superbird story. I was a Chevrolet guy at the time. I was in Military Police school at Fort Gordon, near Augusta, Georgia. This was early 1970. There were lots of performance cars on the base. Being a car guy my main diversion was looking for cars as they ran us to every class all over the Post. There was a Motor Repair Pool and in the parking lot was a orange Superbird and parked to it a 1965 GTO. Now the good part. I knew a little about these cars were so Mopar could run them in NASCAR but that’s all, I was a drag strip guy. The Superbird was missing the wing (drum roll) the GTO had the Superbird’s wing mounted on it and the owner had painted the GTO “O.D.” Army Olive Drab. No shine, dull as the Jeeps and both cars looked like hell to me. I’d check the cars out every time we ran pass. I asked around about the cars but no luck. They farmed us out on a work detail to clean up a small cemetery on Post. The cemetery was of German prisoners of war that died in somehow during incarceration. The Corporal truck driver told me that they both worked together at the motor pool. They’d got in a card game and the Superbird owner being out of money bet the wing. GTO won it and put it on the GTO and painted it and the car. Superbird owner wanted to buy it back but the GTO guy liked it and wouldn’t sell it back. Both cars looked so wrong.

Great story! It's amazing what guys did to their cars, and some still do!
