Could anyone help me with the muncie shifter for my 69 Biscayne. Is there a rebuild kit available or where would I find any parts for it, or even a parts diagram.

   Thanks  Geof

Geof, got any pictures? I rebuilt and modified my ITM shifter, but I don't know if it's the same design as your shifter. If the designs are similar I'm sure the same basic stuff would apply. What are your symptoms? Does the shifter allow you to go from 2nd gear position to 3rd gear position while the trans stays stuck in 2nd? if so i have a simple fix for that. If its general sloppiness then we'd have to see the design and go from there and I'm sure there are folks here who've done the Muncie shifters.

Kevin, I just purchased a complete Muncie shifter assembly, rods, levers, for my car. I haven't even had it in the car yet. Have to get a 4speed crossmember first.I want to take it apart and clean everything, probably do a complete overhaul. There is a small bearing on the left side of the shifter with an orange cap on it, it says Niagara Erie PA on the cap. I am not sure what that bearing is for, it was in pieces. Overall the shifter is in real good shape, it just needs a good cleaning. I was wondering if anybody on the site has rebuilt one. I will try to post some pictures this afternoon.

Here is the picture of the orange bearing cap I was talking about. It fell apart when I took it out. Looks like there might be something missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That shifter is very original and has never been apart until you took her apart

I'm sorry Geof, this design is much different from the ITM 4 speed shifter that I rebuilt. I've never worked on one of these, so I won't try to guess as to what to do.

Thanks Kevin, no problem. I can't even find any pictures of this year of Muncie shifter online. The only thing I found was that most people took them off back in the day, they weren't the most reliable shifter. I will keep looking, hopefully I can get some info. I think you are right Dan, this is the first time it has been apart. I know they are a rare shifter, this is the first complete shifter assembly I have seen for sale. The hunt continues!

Thanks Geof
