The interior has got to go.

Ordered new complete interior.  The task is removing the old seat covers and attached coverings.  Half of the front seat left to take apart.  The fabrics and burlap have obsorbed smells and dust mites beyond belief.  I have always believed a fifty year old car with the original interior was something to behold.  Never in my life will I leave these coverings on the seat springs again.  This goes for the carpet and mohair ( if that is what it is )  as well.  Its comparable to sweeping dirt under a rug throwing in some allergy agitators .  After a power wash to get in the cracks and crevices , a through drying, it will get a light coat of paint.  I am hoping the new painted surface will be less susceptible to dust and corrosion even though it has a galvanized surface.  This was an eye opener.  An upholstery shop owner stated he always checks the springs, cleans and paints the surfaces as part of his service.  A little precaution goes a long ways.  For those who " fabreeze " the interior for the pleasant smell it certainly is an option.  Oh, ... and the sound proofing above the headliner, .... looks perfect  but it is so gone, directly to the trash site.

LOVE the "Old Car Smell"...the mustiness and such. But, when it becomes a health hazard, it's gotta go.

Or the wet carpet smell. Not very nice when it's wet...and it fogs up the windows constantly.
