Today I got the Pypes Street Pro exhaust system with X pipe installed. Pictures and a video are up on the Biscayne My Way page in my signature. Installation was pretty straight forward. Currently I have just used clamps on the install. Once I have driven it for some miles to locate any rattles or other interference problems I will mig weld everything together from the mufflers forward. I'll tack it in place on the car then take it down on the bench where it will be easier to make a good weld all the way around. It is definitely quieter than the 3" Flowmasters that dumped in front of the rear tires. I am not sure if I like it this quiet, but it is a sleeper right?

And the video

Yes, removing all the clamps and welding everything up.....will make a nice improvement. I see you had to cut away at the cross member....or was did done by the prior owner.

I am not certain, but based on the limited info the seller gave me I believe it is a CompCam Magnum 11-218-4, solid lifter, .561 lift, 282 Duration.

Love the sounds coming from your Biscayne Pat.

Not only does it have a nice exhaust tone, but the solid lifters are like listening to a musical instrument.

Use a chevelle trans x-member for better pipe fitment. Bolts right in.

Great information to know.  Luckily my cross member has already been modified for extra clearance.

I am satisfied with the exhaust now so today I welded all the unions back to and including the front tube of the mufflers. Leaving clamps on the tail pipes in case the need ever arises to pull the exhaust off. I was amazed at all the little exhaust leaks with it just clamped together. Pictures are in the My Way link in my sig. Not all the welds are pretty but they are solid and leak free. Still getting the hang of welding upside down stuff.

Good progress so far this week, the fuel cell is out and up on Craig's list:

Which left a hole to fill:

First a little cutting, welding and grinding

And then a little filler to smooth things

And finally some spatter paint.  I did not realize the spatter needed a base color under it so that was a learning experience.  But I got 'er done.

Certainly not a concours example, but it will do the job.

I won't be able to work on it tomorrow, but if all goes well I should get the new tank installed on Thursday.  Anyone know what the proper connector is for the sending unit?  I thought it was a threaded stud on there but it does not have any threads.

Additional detail on the link in my signature.

thanks

Pat

The new stock gas tank is installed.  I got the tank from Summit Racing and the 3/8" pick up from Inline Tube on EBay.  I also removed the braided fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb and installed a period correct chrome dual feed line like the one that was on my old Biscayne.  I need to get it back up on the lift the improve exhaust clearance and clock the exhaust clamps to the side as the factory did.

That leaves just one major change I want to make, that being getting smaller wheels and tires for the front and painting the wheels body color.  At this point the car is getting close to the Day 2 look I am going for.  But I will continue to tweak it as I go.  And yes I know I need to pull the distributor and get it into the right position too.  It's about 30 degrees off, at least a tooth or two and the number one plug wire is one terminal off

Got my 15 x 7 Rallye wheels and 215/70-15 Hankook tires to replace the 15 x 8 Rallyes and 225/60 Radial TAs that were on the front of the car. Had them painted to match the car. I am very pleased with the way it came out! biggrin  We are having a rare and delightful breezy and overcast day today, I will get more pictures in the bright sunshine later.  Just in time for a neat little benefit car show this weekend.

And a bed full of wheels and tires
